Creating a new website or giving your current one an overhaul? Here are 3 things your website must do….
1. Explain clearly what you do
How many times have you landed on a website and left not fully understanding what they do? The 1st thing your website should do is simply explain what you do. Ditch the jargo or words that make you sound super fancy – just say it as it is. Take the A League of Her Own website for example. As soon as you land on our homepage it says ‘xxxxxx’
Clear, simple and does what it says on the tin.
2. Have a clear call to action
What do you want people to do when they land on your website? Do you want them to contact you? Sign up for a newsletter? Visit a particular page? Whatever it is you want them to do, guide them to it. Make it easy for people to know where they should be going. A clear call to action could be having a sign up bar for a newsletter with the words ‘sign up here for a free consultation or XYZ’.
3. Be easy to navigate
Sometimes web designs get so carried away with a beautiful design that they forget to make sure its easy to navigate (can you tell I’m speaking from experience here?). Your websites job is to make it as easy and quick as possible for people to find the information they want – whether that’s your prices, how to contact you, the services they offer or your ‘about me’ page. Give people the information they want.
